GOV. MAKINDE INAUGURATES GOVERNING COUNCILS FOR FIVE TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS; SIGNS RENAMING BILL FOR SAKI POLYTECHNIC

Governor Seyi Makinde took decisive steps to strengthen tertiary education governance yesterday, July 10, 2025, with the inauguration of Governing Councils for five state-owned institutions and the signing of a bill renaming Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki.

The newly inaugurated councils will oversee: 1. The Polytechnic, Ibadan 2. Michael Adeniyi Koleosho Polytechnic, Saki (formerly Oke Ogun Polytechnic) 3. Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igbo-Ora 4. Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate 5. Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology, Eleyele

Governor Makinde charged appointees to prioritize institutional development and academic excellence, stating: “We will continue to commit the State’s resources to the education sector to ensure our graduates compete favourably with their peers globally.”

Concurrently, the Governor signed into law the bill renaming Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki to Michael Adeniyi Koleosho Polytechnic, Saki. The change honors the legacy of Chief Michael Adeniyi Koleosho (1935-2021), a former Secretary to the Oyo State Government and prominent Oke Ogun leader whose advocacy catalyzed the institution’s establishment.

“This renaming recognizes Chief Koleosho’s pivotal role in advancing education in Oke Ogun,” Governor Makinde emphasized. “His vision for accessible quality education aligns with our administration’s commitment to human capital development.

“These actions underscore the Makinde administration’s education transformation agenda: – Strengthening institutional governance – Honoring educational pioneers – Positioning Oyo State as a hub for globally competitive graduates The inaugurated councils commence duties immediately, with mandates to develop strategic roadmaps for their institutions.
