The Oyo State Government has reiterated its commitment to improving rural road infrastructure as part of efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure food security across the state.
This assurance was given by the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Bayo Lawal, during an on-the-spot assessment of the ongoing construction of the Oyada/Okudi Road in Tede, Atisbo Local Government Area.
Speaking at the inspection site, Barr. Lawal emphasized that the road project, being executed under the Oyo State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), is vital for linking farm settlements to urban centers.
According to him, this connectivity will facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce, reduce post-harvest losses, and stimulate economic activity in rural communities.
“Agriculture is a top priority for this administration,” Lawal said.
“This is why we are working in collaboration with the French Government and the World Bank to ensure timely delivery of this project. Our goal is to provide easy access from farmlands to major markets and city centers, thereby curbing food insecurity and inflation.”
He noted that the road network will particularly support the corridor between Ikere Gorge Dam and Iseyin, a region with high agricultural and tourism potential.
The deputy governor assured residents that the state government is committed to opening more rural roads to support ongoing agricultural activities and promote local tourism.
In addition to the road construction projects, the state government, under the RAAMP initiative, has also awarded contracts worth N3.5 billion for the upgrade of three key markets: Aare-Alase Market, Oja-Agbe Market, and Oja-Oba Market.
These upgrades are expected to improve market access and enhance trading conditions for farmers and local businesses.
