PRESIDENT TINUBU ANNOUNCES PASSING OF FORMER PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI

….VP Shettima to Accompany Body Home; National Mourning Declared….

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced today with profound grief the passing of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London at approximately 16:30 GMT+1 following a prolonged illness.

President Tinubu has extended personal condolences to Mrs. Aisha Buhari, the late President’s widow, expressing solidarity with the family and all Nigerians in this moment of national loss.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has been directed to immediately depart for the United Kingdom to accompany the body of the former President back to Nigeria.

While all flags at federal and state institutions nationwide are to be flown at half-staff effective immediately until further notice.

PRESIDENT BUHARI’S LEGACY:

The late statesman served Nigeria across multiple epochs:

– Military Head of State (January 1984 – August 1985)

– Democratically Elected President (2015–2023), securing historic back-to-back terms reflecting broad national confidence.

President Tinubu stated: “President Buhari’s life embodied sacrifice and duty to our nation. We honour his service and urge all Nigerians to uphold his legacy of unity during this solemn period.”
